Cangrejos de la arena Pelele (scopimera globosa)
Los Cangrejos de la arena Pelele son pequeños cangrejos, alrededor de 1 cm. Forman pequeñas bolas en la arena de la playa en busca de comida. Viven en madrigueras en la arena, donde permanecen durante la marea alta. Cuando la marea baja, emergen a la superficie, y recorren la arena para alimentarse, formando con ella bolitas infladas, que cubren la arena. Los cangrejos trabajan radialmente desde la entrada de su madriguera, y vuelven a entrar como la marea sube y destruye las bolitas . El material consumido por los cangrejos tiene muy baja concentración de materia orgánica. Cada vez que vuelve la marea alta, las figuras de bolas en arena se desmoronan al ser arrastradas por las olas, dejando de nuevo atrás más partículas de comida para alimentar al pequeño cangrejo y artista accidental.
Sand bubbler crabs (scopimera globosa)
Sand bubbler crabs are small crabs, around 1 cm makes small balls in the sand of the beach looking for food. They live in burrows in the sand, where they remain during high tide. When the tide is out, they emerge on to the surface of the sand, and scour the sand for food, forming it into inflated pellets, which cover the sand. The crabs work radially from the entrance to their burrow, which they re-enter as the tide rises and destroys the pellets. The material consumed by sand bubbler crabs has a very low concentration of organic matter. Each time high tide comes in, the figures of the sand balls crumble and are washed ashore, nevertheless leaving behind more particles of food to feed the little crab and the accidental artist.
