Miles de personas de diferentes partes de España abarrotaron durante la mañana del domingo en la Puerta del Sol una convocatoria a favor del lobo ibérico, y para pedir la declaración de este animal como especie protegida, como lo son el águila imperial, el oso pardo o el lince ibérico.
Thousands of people from different parts of Spain filled-up the Puerta del Sol on Sunday morning for the Iberian wolf, and to request the declaration of this animal as a protected species, such as the Imperial Eagle, Brown Bear or the Iberian Lynx.

Entre los colectivos han figurado animalistas, ecologistas, representantes del sector turístico y del sector ganadero, también de Francia y Portugal.

The figure of Felix Rodriguez de la Fuente (a Spanish naturalist who defended the Iberian wolf and died over 30 yrs ago) has been very present, along with the motto «Felix, listen, we are continuing with your struggle!»

El lobo es parte esencial de los ecosistemas, controla las poblaciones de herbívoros y así crea una salud del hábitat, desde la fauna, flora y el agua.

La matanza legal de lobos se realiza con los «controles» oficiales y la caza de trofeos. La caza de trofeos busca sobre todo abatir a los machos alfa, que su pérdida en la manada causa trastornos al grupo y a la ganadería. Al ser un carnívoro social depende de su manada para la caza de sus presas naturales, y si le quitan los miembros más dominantes y sabios del equipo, los sobrevivientes entonces buscan presas más fáciles como el ganado.
The legal killing of wolves is done through official «controls» and by trophy hunting. Trophy hunting seeks to abate especially the alpha males, their loss in the pack causes disruptions to the group and to livestock. The wolf, being a social carnivore depends on its pack for hunting their natural prey, and if the dominant and the wise members are taken away from the team, the survivors then seek easier prey such as cattle.

The wolf alive is worth more than one whos dead, ecologically and economically taling. It is a treasure for photographic tourism and is part of the heritage of our country.
